Is Vegan Skincare Worth the Hype?

We all have that product in our beauty routine that we feel we just cannot live without.

But when it comes to the ingredients list for that product?

...well let’s just say ignorance is bliss.

What if I told you that that long list of ingredients is more than just confusing to pronounce, it's confusing for your body too.

Some of your favorite brands of body wash, from Dove, to Olay, Neutrogena, Irish Spring, and Suave, all contain varying forms and levels of potentially harmful and toxic chemicals.

To name a few...

PARABENS & PHTHALATES - found in many of our favorite products these chemicals are what are referred to as endocrine disruptors, Endocrine disruptors, especially when introduced to our immune system through skin (our largest organ) can disrupt development, as well as reproductive, brain, immune function. (1)

SULFATES & SLES - these can be irritating to the skin and should be avoided by those with sensitive or damaged hair or skin. SLES can contain 1,4-dioxane (2)

PEGs - these are chemicals that can be contaminated during the manufacturing product with ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane.  These are known human carcinogens. (3)

DYES - coal tar is a byproduct of processing coal and is used as dye in products such as shampoo, and soaps as well as scalp and skin treatments. During manufacturing these can become contaminated with known carcinogens like PAHs or benzoapyrene. (4)

Have I totally bummed you out yet? [sorry!]

I promise this post isn’t all doom and gloom.

As awareness of these potentially harmful chemicals increases, we are empowered to become conscientious consumers.

So.

Why is Vegan skincare worth it?

Let’s answer that by talking about what ingredients we use at The Bubbly Kitchen.

SODIUM HYDROXIDE - a non-toxic cleaning agent that is harmless when used in small amounts + mixed with other ingredients.

DISTILLED WATER - when paired with the sodium hydroxide, makes the “bubbling/”suds” agent that creates that luxurious lather we all love.

OLIVE, COCONUT, PALM, & CASTOR OIL - with nourishing, hydrating, soothing, and antibacterial properties, these oils are 100% vegan and natural, and are enriching for your skin with tons of Vitamin E and antioxidants. YUM!

At TBK we stay away from unnatural, toxic, and potentially harmful chemicals, so that you can take care of your skin with simple, clean confidence.

So, tell us? Are you ready to ditch those iffy ingredient lists for effective, pure products?

Xo,

Nicole
